POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
COCOLO KYOTO
From fruit- and nut-topped acai bowls and pistachio gelato to nuts flavoured with black shichimi or white miso, COCOLO KYOTO offers both light meals to enjoy in the shop and treats to sample before choosing as souvenirs.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Add nuts to a fruit-topped acai bowl, or choose a bowl that puts nuts centre stage. At COCOLO KYOTO, the toppings offer different ways to enjoy your bowl. One diner who ordered the fruit bowl recalled the lightly icy texture of the acai, colourful fruit, and the combination of nuts and granola. The extra nuts were part of that diner’s order, so you could start with the standard bowl and add them to taste. Honey is served on the side, allowing you to adjust the sweetness yourself. There are also reports of a tasty matcha bowl, and the menu includes a matcha acai bowl with pistachio and fruit. One diner noted that the fruit was frozen; its chill may be worth bearing in mind when choosing a bowl.
Gelato is another option after a meal or for a break. Alongside acai and mango, the shop is said to offer more unusual flavours, including black shichimi. One diner who chose pistachio enjoyed its pronounced flavour with the richness of the milk and the texture of nuts. If you’re after something cold and sweet with a twist, there’s more to consider than acai bowls alone.
The shop also sells nuts and granola, and diners have reported being able to sample them before choosing. For a souvenir, you might compare Kyoto-inspired flavours such as black shichimi, white miso and yatsuhashi. Diners have described the black shichimi as spicy and savoury, the white miso as mellow, and the yatsuhashi flavour as memorable. One person picked up a more affordable option containing broken nuts for home. Whether you’re choosing a gift or a snack for yourself, it’s useful to be able to ask the staff for advice and taste the flavours before deciding.
The shop, on floor 2, has dine-in seating, but you’ll need to go up a flight of stairs. It works for a visit to enjoy an acai bowl indoors or to sample nuts and granola before choosing what to take home.
